This past Sunday (May 18th, 2025), I volunteered at my second Greta’s Run (https://www.facebook.com/gretasrun/), a local 5K and community event that blends physical activity with remembrance and support for mental health. That morning I helped set up barricades, passed out water, and cheered on runners as they crossed the finish line.
Greta’s Run, created in memory of high schooler Greta Schoenemann and supported by Imagine (https://imaginenj.org/), brings people together to support grief counseling and mental health programs. It was great to see so many familiar faces, especially the kids I facilitate at Imagine, at the event.
After the race, we joined the Memory Walk, a calm and reflective path lined with signs honoring loved ones who had passed. Walking beside families and reading their messages was a moving experience. I learned a lot about the power healing in communities.
